Hi, my name is Carmelle. At the time I conducted this science project I was 12 years old. It was a good choice of topics for me personally.
I presented my project to judges at the regional Mid Columbia Science Fair on March 13, 2003. I got an Award of Distinction for Creativity. I also received an Honorable Mention.
I also took my project to the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair on April 4, 2003. I received a 3rd place ribbon for the 7th grade chemistry section and a participation ribbon.
My Family
I am 1 of three siblings. My sister's name is Adrielle. She plays the
violin in the Youth Ensemble for Strings. She is 15 years old and is in
9th grade. She helped me choose my experiment topic for this year. My brother,
Daniel, is 8 years old and goes to the elementary school. Daniel
has tried playing the trumpet, though he wants to play the saxophone. I
think he is too young to decide what instrument he will play. He helped
me by staying out of my way for most of the time.
My mom's name is Cita. She goes to Yakima Community College and she sometimes plays the piano. At one time, she tried to play the flute. She helped me with my project by buying the pain relievers I needed for my experiment. My dad's name is Ruben. He plays the french horn at our church choir. He works at a public health clinic in Toppenish as a lab technician and a health control officer. He helped me choose my constants.
My Hobbies and Interests
I love to read many different books written by many different authors. The series I like to read are Harry Potter, The Immortals, Song of the Lioness, The Lord of the Rings, The Circle of Magic, and The Circle Opens. I have many different collections. I have a collection of rocks, key chains, shells, marbles, coins, and stickers. Even though I do not do many sports, I like to play tennis and badminton. My favorite foods are pizza, pickles, brownies, and ice cream.
My Plans for the Future
My plans for the future are that I will go to college for about 4 years. I might be taking some math or science science classes in college. I would rather have a job in science, astronomy, zoology, or oceanography. I will then get a good job to support myself and still have extra savings for later. After a while, when I think I'm ready, I will go traveling a bit. I will try to travel around the United States. When I've gone around a bit, I will go around the world, most probably to the Pacific Islands.
