Jordan P.

2001

Hi, my name is Jordan. At the time I conducted this science project I was thirteen years old. It was a good choice of topics for me personally because, I am interested in Salmon and trout. I am a fly fisherman and concerned about water quality of streams and salmonid habitat in the Pacific Northwest. This issue is of special importance at this time and place due to the recent threats and decline of salmon and salmon habitat all over Washington State. At the state science fair my project received a first place and at the Mid Columbia regional science fair I received a second.

My Family

My parents are Del and Janey. They have helped me greatly in becoming interested in science. My dad has also introduced fishing to me and has helped to develop my interest in Salmon and water quality. My dad enjoys hunting and trains dogs for this purpose. Both my parents have taken me to streams to view salmon and have taken me fishing. I have a younger brother Karl is in sixth grade. My brother also enjoys fishing and likes  skateboarding, biking and karate. We have several dogs that we use for tracking game and some chickens and rabbits that we raise for show in the Central Washington Fair.

My Hobbies and Interests

My favorite hobbies are reading, geography, soccer, hunting, skiing and fly fishing. I like to hike often and enjoy seeing wildlife and fishing. I like to fly fish for trout and bass on the Yakima river. My favorite books are The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I like to ski and cross country ski and enjoy going up in the mountains to do so. I like to collect rocks and fossils while going into the hills to find them. I also like geology.

My Plans for the Future

My plans for the future include these. I  would like to go to a university and get a degree. Some choices for schools include Bowdin, Princeton or Brown. I would like to get my degree in Ornithology or Ichthyology or international diplomacy. I hope to get a job and have a substantial income. Hopefully I will get a job working as a marine biologist or an Ornithologist (a person working with birds) or a job in international diplomacy for the United Nations or the state department. If these are feasible I look forward to my future.
