2006

Hi, my name is Dalainee. At the time I conducted this science project I was 11 years old. It was a good choice of topics for me personally, because I have no sense of hygiene what-so-ever, and this helps me learn about the importance of sanitation.

I took my project to the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair on March 31, 2006. I placed second place for fifth grade in microbiology.

My Family

My family consists of 5 members, including me (but not including my dog, Baillie Lulu Arden).  If you were to meet us for the first time, you would totally be freaked out. We could be the weirdest family on earth, in a good sense.

My brother, the first child, is now 21 years old. His name is Jared. He currently is in his last year at the University of Washington, aka the UW. He comes home during the summer, and totally messes up the computer room. Ever since he started college, my sister has been living in his old room. He is the only person in my close family who had blue eyes.

My sister, the second child, is now 13 years old. Her name is Rainan. She did a science project for SOAR this year, too. Her project was "Toothpastes vs. Bacteria Reduction." She is currently in her last year at the Selah Intermediate School.

My father's name is Stephen (pronouced Steven). Our genes mainly come from him.

As you can see, my father is a great person (I would say nice, but that is a "dull" word. I don't like "dull" words. Even "bored" is a "dull" word, so I don't use it. "Dull," however, isn't a "dull" word).

My mother's name is Robi. She is a respectable women who, fortunetly, works as Mr. Newkirk's (the SOAR teacher) assitant teacher. She had saved my forgetfulness about signing permission forms, lunch checks, and papers many times. I take after my mother more than I take after my father. The rest of the children in my family take after my father, instead of my mother.

My Hobbies and Interests

Most of my hobbies are sports, because I'm fairly athletic. In a year, I do six sports; tennis, dance, swimming, soccer, skiing, and snowboarding. Though my mother did not enroll me in soccer this year, but I hope I will compete next year. I do tennis and swimming (for the SDST, the Selah Dolphin Swim Team) in the summer. Most of it is in the morning (my usual schedule is swimteam at 6, and tennis around noon). I play soccer and dance during autumn. In winter I dance, ski, snowboard (even though I totally suck at it, I'm much better at skiing), and swim (for the YMCA).

Reading, writing, and debating are my main interests. I love reading, and if you know  me, you probably know that you can almost never see me off a computer or without a book. Reading is essential for the writing job I hope to have in the future. Writing is VERY essential for being an author.  Since arguing is what I do when I'm bored (well, other than eating candy. I especially love chocolate candy), I get good practice for my second choice of a job; a lawyer. Debating is a positive way to argue.

My Plans for the Future

For the future, I plan to NOT flunk any grades and graduate highschool (hopefully, as valedictorian). Then, I hope to enroll  in either WSU (Washington State University) or UW (University of Washington). My first choice would be the UW (prounounced the u-dub). Once there, I will study history, writing, and computer classes. Then, after graduating there, I will probably go to law school to become a lawyer. I hope to marry a successful business man near the age of 30 or so (me, not him. Okay, maybe him, too). Either that choice, or to never marry at all and adopt twin girls.

A Self-Evaluation of My Project

  1. How thorough and complete was my project? My project was extremely thorough and complete, except for my project log. I neglected putting entries into my project log right after I did them, so the entries weren't very detailed.
  2. What would I do differently if starting over again? I would definetly put much more effort into my project log. My notes also lacked in compactness and details.
  3. What major strengths does my project have? I believe my project's major strengths are my journal and research report. I put most of my effort into these parts of my experiment.
  4. What weaknesses or problems does my project have?My project log was my main weakness, considering all it said about my experiment was "I conducted my experiment."
  5. How worthwhile are my experimental results for the world? For me?  Manufacturing hand sanitizers is important to the world because our population could have a major drop if a contagious disease were to go around. Cleanliness on hands is extremelly important because we eat with our hands. The results are helpful to me because I touch millions of bacteria everyday, and I get sick a lot. Having learned this new information, I know what to buy for keeping my hands clean.
  6. What new skills did I learn or vastly improve during my project work? Having to talk to strangers I don't know improved my social skills extremely. I also vastly improved in putting effort into my work.
  7. In what ways did I enjoy my study and work? I enjoyed reading the new and interesting information I used for notes. I also enjoyed the fieldtrips and socializing.
