Dedication
I would like to dedicate my project to my Mom and Dad, because they helped out a lot.
Why I Chose This Topic
There are several reasons I decided to take this opportunity to study all about Rhode Island.  I chose Rhode Island because I always thought it was an island and people said it was interesting.  Another reason I chose Rhode Island is because I to wanted find out for myself what its like.

Research Summary

Introduction
Pack your bags and get ready to leave because we are taking a trip to Rhode Island. . You can surf the seas and learn about it just by walking through town.  Did you know Rhode Island is the smallest state? It only covers 1,231 square miles!  You can also go and eat all your favorite seafood because well, they live right next to the ocean.  Obviovsly its a popular place it has grown from 987,429.  Now the population is just over a million.

State symbols
There are many state symbols of Rhode Island. The state colors are blue, gold, and white, which appear on the state flag.  Another state symbol is the Rhode Island Red hen. This state bird was adopted in 1954. Red hens are prized for their ability to lay eggs.  They can lie up to 200-300 eggs a year!!  Red hens were developed by mating two different kinds of chickens in the mid 1800`s.  They became very popular for their handiness to lay eggs.  Today they are very rare; scientists believe there are only 2,500 left in North America and 5, 000 left in the world!
The state motto is Hope and the state shell is the Quahog. . Rhode Islands nickname is “The Ocean State” but has traditionally been called “Little Rhodey.”

Wild life
Some of the wildlife you will see are animals you thought you might not see by a lot of water and some may be those you thought you wouldn’t see anywhere else.  Some of the birds you may see are osprey, phesents, owls, and many more of course.  You may even see deer, foxes, rabbits, and more.  Don’t you think the Rhode Island animals are amazing?  I mean how they can live by all that water.

Climate
Summer temperatures in Rhode Island are usually in the high 70`s.  Winter average temperatures usually falls into the low 20`s. The highest it has ever been in Rhode Island is 104 Fahrenheit in the year of 1975 in the city of Providence. The coldest it has ever been is -23 Fahrenheit in Kingston in 1942.

Famous people
Mr. Roger Williams was the founder of Rhode Island and named the state capital Providence.  Providence was one of Rhode Island‘s first permanent European settlement. Gilbert Stuart was born in rhode island.  He painted a famous picture of George Washington. The painting appears on the dollar bill.  You can find his birthplace in Saunderstown, Rhode Island.  Do you like baseball?  Well if you do,  you will love this.  Before Babe Ruth played for the Yankees, he played for the Providence Grays in 1914!

Conclusion
Can you believe that Rhode Island really isn’t an island?  Rhode is a very old state with strong government.  If I went to Rhode Island I would go to Providence because it is the biggest city and it’s the state capital. What town or city would you go to?

I would like to thank the following people my mom dad grammie and papa.

Who I Interviewed And What I Learned

I interviewed Michael Goulart on December 18th  2008.  I interviewed Mr.Goulart at his house on Ruthina Lane in Selah Washington.  I chose to interview Mr.Goulart because he used to live in Rhode Island. Mr. goulart told me a lot about the history. For example, in the civil war Rhode Island had its first group of black soldiers. On may 4th 1776,  Rhode Island got to sign the Declaration of Independence, when the rest of us signed it on July 4th. In Rhode Island wherever you are, you are surrounded by water. The most popular beaches are Horse Neck Beach and Newport Beach.  Acorrding to mr.goulart the most popular city is providence and the most popular town is Newport. Michael’s prediction for Rhode Island is that the population will actually out grow the state.

The Products I Created

My products are, a big map and a buzzer board.  I also have diagram of Rhode Island and the state flag.
