Dedication
I would like to dedicate my project to my parents, because they helped me a lot with my report.

Why I Chose This Topic
There are several reasons I decided to take this opportunity to study all about dog training.  First, I really wanted to learn more about dog training. Also, I thought it would be fun to research.

Research Summary

Introduction
Get your leashes and lets go on a walk through dog training.  Believe it or not dogs can train in many different places. Did you know that it is easier to train your dog when it is spayed or neutered? Dogs can burn calories just like humans!   Dogs can ruin their teeth by chewing on the wrong things, so it helps to know a few tricks to keep your dog healthy, happy, and well behaved.

Places to train
A dog will train in many different places.  They can be trained inside or outside.  Some times a dog may be afraid of the environment were it is at. But don’t punish it for this, it will get used to it.  Dogs will train at home and in pet stores at the classes!

Surgery
Getting your dog spayed or neutered is a dangerous operation. But it could reduce the risks of your dog getting different types of cancers.  Before you get your dog spayed or neutered you need to have a place for it to rest. After they are spayed or neutered, they will still have lots of personality, if not more. They won’t lose energy once they are spayed or neutered. After they are spayed or neutered you will become their whole world. Take advantage of this when its time to start training.

Begging
You should feed your pet at least 30 minutes before you eat. When you eat pay no attention to your pets.  Don’t leave food on the table because it will make your dog very anxious and they will probably eat it. When you clean up, don’t give them any thing.  They will keep begging if you feed them scraps.

Bathroom training
At about four months, your puppy does not have enough control to not go to the bathroom. If it does go to the bathroom outside you should praise it. To let your dog know it needs to go to the bathroom outside you should walk your puppy at least 4 times a day.  Your dog may not want to go outside regardless you have to make them go outside.  After awhile, they will get it and start going to the bathroom outside.

Barking
Some dogs bark to hear there own voices. If you want to make your dog stop barking just start by saying quiet. What ever the reason if your dog does not stop barking, just put a few drops of lemon juice into their mouths. When they stop praise them and don’t use the lemon juice any more. Just do this until they stop. Don’t leave your dog in a kennel all day by its self because it will bark and wine so much that it could go in to shock.

Easy training

After some training, your dog will know the basic commands: sit, stay, and down. If your dog knows these commands, you can start with the command come. You have to call your dog by its name and say come. After training for about 15-20 minutes, take a break. Then start again. Your dog may come but then run away if it is scared, so give it time.

Conclusion
Its time to “heel”, because this reports over.  If I were a dog trainer I would try to make my own trick because more people might start to teach there dog the trick.  I bet its really fun to be a dog trainer, you would get to train so many dogs! Train dogs, they need it the most. It’s really important to train your dog so it can be a good dog.

Who I Interviewed And What I Learned
I interviewed Sue Record.  I interviewed her on January 7, 2009, at my school. I interviewed her because she has trained dogs for so many years. The two dogs she has right now have won many titles. Sue has been training for over 30 years. She retired after teaching for 37 years. Then she became a dog trainer. Sue trains in obedience, rally obedience and agility. She has always loved dogs and believes that to have a dog you must want to put training into it. Sue enjoys training dogs. She started with two Siberian huskies that were very hard to train because they are a very independent breed. Then she had a German shepherd that was very easy to train. At the same time, she has a Pomeranian that competes and has won many titles. Now she has two border collies. One is competing and one is still training. Sue has also trained other people’s dogs. She is worried that people are not putting enough training into their dogs, but she knows that dogs have a good future.

The Products I created
I made a pamphlet. There is a true or false, a mini report also a word search. I brought in a harness, a collar, a collar that is chewed up and a leash.
