Tutoring

Introduction
Tutoring can be extremely necessary for kids that struggle academically. Volunteer tutors can solve this problem. The tutors would only need to help only one hour a week and that would be really helpful to students that aren’t doing so hot in school. To know what to do in a tutoring situation, you will have to know how to get started, under going the process, and saying good-byes.

Why it’s important
Tutoring is important because some children are confused and need help in school.  Without that help some students might not be able to excel in life, unlike their classmates.  This could result in joblessness.  Students should get the same chance as the other kids.   Tutoring can reduce the reason for homelessness that can be changed, if everyone that has the ability would lend a much-needed hand, in some parts of the country.  Tutoring is not for people who are disabled, but for people who don’t get it or are behind (and sometimes for people who are challenged, too).  These students do not know what to do because they are spending their time doing other things.  They only do this because they told themselves not to care any more.  This can be stopped!!!

Getting it all started
I know meeting new people and spending at least one hour a week with them is awkward, but if you learn to get past this anxiety it can be fun.  The easiest way to get past it is to make him/her your friends. This would make tutoring more fun than work. You want to start out tutoring with comfort and ease.  Do you (or did you) have a favorite teacher?  Being a good tutor can make you just as big as a role model, so you should be just as fun and informative as that teacher.  That would make everything a lot less awkward.  The first day also needs to save room in the agenda for some ground rules.  Although tutoring can be fun, it needs to be useful.

Continuing the process
After your first few sessions, you may fall into a routine with your student.  You may enjoy trying different things, such as flash cards and games.  This can prevent boredom.   You will probably see your student doing better and better.  After your student is satisfied with his/her grades, he/she will probably discontinue tutoring.  Sometimes they might need a little more support for a while, but usually now that they are caught up, they will want to say good-bye.

Good-byes
Saying good-bye can be tough, but you can get through it. It is most likely that you will see this person again, unless you move to a far away country.  The best way should be a handshake or a hug of some kind.  Just a good-bye doesn’t always cut it. Not doing any thing can result in misunderstanding and hurt feelings when you see them again. That’s not good.  A proper good-bye can result in a smile all around.

Business in tutoring
Believe it or not, tutoring is a pretty good business.  Tutoring is a thing that people think they need badly, so they will spend a large amount of money to get that help.  As a non-professional tutor, you can get up to $20 per hour. And if you follow through with it, a professional tutor can get up to $50 per hour.  Imagine working as that for twice a week with four students a week!   You can even tutor from your home, too.  New online tutoring services let you sit on your computer chair and give that student the help that he/she needs, at an average of about $250 per month!

Conclusion
Tutoring is tough business.  A lot of time is needed to go though a procedure like that.  You can even take up a business for tutoring. After tutoring you will have your own special story and the thought that you did something for your community.

Experiences
My first student was a close friend of mine that needed help in math.  He didn’t understand the math concept and was behind by a long shot.  He would ride the bus home with me and we would work until football practice. This gave us about 2 hours to work every day for about a week, but we didn’t always do it.  Since he was a close friend, it more of a fun time for him, but a serious time for me. The very first days we were mainly working on homework skills and homework itself.  Then I noticed that he didn’t only not understand the fraction work, he wasn’t really meeting the arithmetic standards of arithmetic.  After that day, every day we would practice division and multiplication. This threw me off in working for 10 hours.  Then I had another student that my mom suggested. I called her the following day.  The tutoring procedure with this student only went well for about 2 sessions.  First, things happened so we could not meet on schedule. Then, we were on a role for about 2 weeks.  Then, it just fell apart.  The moral of this story is to STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE!!!
