Animal Rights and Welfare

Introduction

Animal rights are all of the rights that animals have, but it goes further than this. It is that animals have proper shelter, have food, and water. Animals need these things to live. If you fail to provide these, it is punishable by law. There are many things that I could talk about. First I will talk about an organization called the CFAAR. This is a very disruptive organization when it comes to animal rights. Then I will talk about animal protestors that really don’t like and research. Also I will talk about a religion called Hinduism this is and all vegetarian religion. I will talk about some people from back in the 4th century. Some of the first animal rights. And my volunteering at the humane society.

Coalition for animals and animal research

In the 1990’s a lot of people were questioning animal research. When people said this CFAAR (coalition for animals and animal research) said that animals should be used in testing. After the organization said this, people began to protest, “Stop the testing and the torture.” The CFAAR and the protestors had many arguments. Some of the protestors waited outside the Northwest Animal Facility (an animal testing lab) and assaulted the scientists that came out. Some people even threw rocks through the windows, while some of them did a less violent approach and just continued to protest. The police arrested over 3,800 people and not one thing was resolved. That was 18 years ago and people still do plenty of animal research.

Animal protestors

There are still a lot of animal protestors, many of which are vegetarians. Lots of the people say that we shouldn’t eat meat because we are killing millions of cows and pigs each year. They say that they deserve to live just as much as us. Others said that if we don’t eat meat we might not be able to have the maximum energy and strength to live as easily as we do. Many people also protest whether we should wear animal skin clothes, but this dates back over hundreds of years to the first Indians that lived in North America. They used buffalo hides as clothing. Although companies that sell coats say that there isn’t an animal that they get the fur from. Some of these companies use monkey fur, the animal that has the closest D.N.A. to human beings, 98%. Protesting is considered a felony if you take it to far so if you want to make a difference just do it not so violently as throwing rocks through window’s.

Hindus

The most common religion in India is called Hinduism. This means that you are a Hindu; a religion that dates back to prehistoric times. To this religion animals have immortal souls, souls more powerful than humans. The Hindus worship many animal gods, cow being the most sacred. Because of this belief they are vegetarians. Many animal protesters believe that they are similar to Hindus and that Hindus are completely right about their religion.

Aristotle

A 4th century philosopher named Aristotle argued that animals ranked far below humans on the chain of being, or scala naturae. Aristotle had an argument with his pupil Theophrastus. Theophrastus argued against eating meat, because it is striping animals of life. Because he said this, people began to think that Aristotle was very unjust. Non-human animals Theophrastus said could reason, sense, and feel just as humans can. Aristotle said nearly the exact opposite thing. Most people remained thinking that animals couldn’t feel or do anything humans can until just over thirty years ago in the 1970’s. This happened because scientists began dissecting animal that were dead and found that animals have most of the same body parts that humans have just mostly located in different areas. If it were today chances are Aristotle would be considered in being throughn in jail for animal abuse.

Britain Animal Rights

In the early 18th century animal rights were just absurd to the British. One man in the supreme council of the British said that they should put new laws on some animals. First when he suggested protecting horses, almost all of the council laughed at this request. One said do you want to protect dogs, and the rest of the council laughed at this too. “And cats too,” yelled another one. Just this one simple notion to make animal life easier seemed hysterical to all of Britain. Amazingly the first animal rights were formed in Britain in 1892. There animal rights were formed because people’s animals died in cities left to right because of animal abuse.
Conclusion
I think this is only a brief understanding of animal rights but now that you understand a little you can do a lot to improve animal’s lives. At the humane society I learned that many animals are neglected every year. We all have to step up and try to stop animal abuse! I hope you use all of this information to help improve the lives of animals.

Volunteering

You may think that I’m being a hypocrite and telling you to help animals when I intend to do nothing. You are wrong. I volunteered at the human society and helped animals for 10 hours. There I walked dogs, cleaned them, and groomed them. This helps them greatly because they were mostly neglected so they may not trust all people because they were previously abused. They learn to trust and love people.
