Hi, my name is Alex. At the time I conducted this project I was 10 years old and was in the fifth grade at Selah Intermediate School.

I chose this topic because I am really interested in things and people from Egypt’s past such as how the pharaohs lived, how they grew crops, or even how they cured people and warded off snakes and scorpions.  Second I would like to learn about embalming and the mummification process. I wanted to know how they learned to embalm and who they usually learned it from.  Finally, I am just really curious about life in Ancient Egypt like labor, and what kind of method they used for teaching. I also would like to be an archaeologist in Egypt one day.

Dedication
I would like to dedicate my project to my older sister, Jodi, because she has faith in me and she is always willing to help me.

My Family
There are nine people in my family including my pets but six without.  My mom's name is Deborah and she works at Yakima Valley Memorial at CRM (Clinical Resource Management).  My dad's name is Scott and he works as a volunteer firefighter in Selah.  My older sister's name is  Jodi  and she is a college student.  One of my younger brothers' names is Nolan and he is going to start kindergarten in the fall.  My other younger brothers' name is Thomas and he is also going to start kindergarten in the fall.  My dog's name is Sadie, she is a Brittany Spanial,  and she is white with copper colored spots.  My cat's name is Widget, we don't know what kind of cat he is, and he is a greyish color.  My rabbit's name is Shuffy,  I don't know what kind of rabbit he is,  and he is a beige color.

My Hobbies and Interests
My favorite thing to do in my spare time is play on the computer, talk on the phone with friends, listen to music, watch T.V., draw, read, sleep, ride bikes, ride my skateboard, and play with friends.  Something I like to play on the computer is Cheat! on neopets.com.  Some friends I like to talk to on the phone are Morgan, and Brittney.  The music  I listen to is the CD that my sister made for me.  Things I watch on T.V. are Spongebob Square Pants, Fairly Odd Parents, and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.  I like to draw people.  I like to just lie down on my bed and fall asleep.  I like to get out my bike or my dad's bike and ride around usually in circles.  I also like to get out my skateboard and ride it.  The friends I like to play with are Morgan, and Brittney.

My Plans for the Future
I plan to work hard in school, getting good grades, especially in high school. I also plan to go to college at Central Washington University.  When I am an adult I plan to work as an Egyptologist.  I want to visit Egypt someday and excavate lost tombs and finnaly solve the mystery of King  Tutankhamen's ancient tomb, and find out how he really died.

The Products I Created
I created four products: a survey, a game board, a pamphlet, and a blow-up drawing.

Every one in the SOAR class conducted a survey.  To create my survey, wrote a few questions that I thought fifth graders could answer, that all had to do with Ancient Egypt.  Almost all of them were factual, but there was one that was an opinion question.  Next I typed them up on the computer, printed them out, had my teacher check them, and then I fixed my mistakes.  I had Mrs. Viernes print out 60 copies on tan paper which was enough for two classrooms.  I conducted my survey in two fifth grade class rooms, Mrs. Quigley/Mrs. Blakney, and Mrs. Mottet.  After I had conducted my survey I took the data and counted how many responses from girls I for each question and how many responses from boys for each question.  Then I entered the numbers into an Excel spreadsheet, and calculated the percentages for the boys and the girls for each question.  Then I used the data on the spreadsheet to make a graph for each of the questions.  Last I formatted the graphs so they would be readable and colorful, but the boys and girls colors had to be the same color for each graph.

Almost everyone in SOAR created a learning game, I made a board game.  To make my game board I went to the store with my dad and bought some wood that was one inch thick and 11 inches long.  We took the board home and cut them into sizes 11”X11”, 9”X9”, 7”X7”, 5”X5”, 3”X3”, and 1”X1”.  Next, we took the pieces and used a square to line up the cut pieces exactly 1” from the edge.  When I got them lined up I took a nail gun and nailed the boards in a square pattern. I repeated nailing with all of boards until they looked like a Great Step Pyramid.  After it was all put together my dad and I got textured spray paint that was about the color of a real pyramid.  I took the paint and sprayed each side of the pyramid with a light coat of paint. Then I waited twenty minutes for the top coat to get mostly dry.  Then I sprayed each side again.  The next day when it was dry, I took it to SOAR. I had Mrs. Viernes cut a tag board to the right size to put my pyramid on.  Then I chose a color to put little labels that say draw a card, go back to start, go forward 1, 2, 3 spaces, and go back 1, 2, 3 spaces.  Next I cut the cards and the labels, and glued them to the pyramid with rubber cement.

Every one in SOAR created a pamphlet.  To make my pamphlet I titled it Ancient Egypt to fit my project.  Next I chose a picture of King Tut’s ceremonial mask from clip art.  After that I typed the credits.  When I was done with my front page, I went onto crossword comp and typed a few words having to do with Ancient Egypt, and placed them on the crossword puzzle. Then I copied it onto my pamphlet.  The next thing I did was thought of about thirty facts and typed them on my pamphlet.  The last thing I did was doing a word scramble, by thinking of a few words, scrambling them, typing them, and making a line for the word.

How I Evaluate My Entire Project
 (1)  How thorough and complete was my project?
My project was very thorough and complete.  I probably could have done an even more thorough job if I had found more than just on source to find out some facts instead of just going with what the first resource said, because one might have been wrong.

(2)  What would I do differently if starting over again?
If I started over, something that I would do differently is I would find more resources to find more and more accurate information.  I would also take more time to study and more important things to put into my report and better information.

(3)  What major strengths does my project have?
I have good information that answers almost every question that I or anybody else might have.  I made good subject choices to write about, and got important information.  I met the class and my own expectations, and I can call myself a fifth grade expert.

(4)  What weaknesses or problems does my project have?
I don’t have all of the information that I would like to have, and I didn’t answer every question that I or somebody else might have had.  I didn’t have enough time to find info on all of the subjects that I might have liked to have.

(5)  What did I learn to do better during this project?
I learned to take more time to study and get things as good as the can get.  I also learned how to find the more important information instead of just facts that aren’t very important.  The most important thing I learned was how to suck almost every bit of information that I can find.

(6)  In what ways did I enjoy my study and work?
I enjoyed learning about an ancient culture called the Ancient Egyptians.  I already knew a lot but in my study I learned so much more.  I enjoyed learning about the every day lives of the Ancient Egyptians, how they worked, and what they worked as.
