Shannon O.

2005
|
Hi, my name is Shannon. At the time I conducted this project I
was 10 years old and was in the fourth grade at Robert Lince Elementary
School, although I was in fifth grade SOAR.
Ever since I was 8, I've had a strong interest in authors. That
is why I decided to take this opportunity to study all about writers.
Dedication
I would like to dedicate my project to my mom, because she always helps
me when I need it.
My Family
There are 5 people in my family. My mom's name is Heidi and
she kind and funny. My dad's name is Joe. He is nice and funny
(like my mom). I also have a brother, Conner, who is a year older and a sister, Cailin, who is
three years younger. As a family we enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities.
I hope to soon take Hunters' Ed. so I can join my dad and brother hunting, with
no doubt that my sister will be coming along in a couple years.
My Hobbies and Interests
My favorite thing to is play sports. It really dosn't matter what
sport. I love crafts but barely ever get to do them. I love the snow.
My Plans for the Future
I plan to work hard in school, getting good grades, especially in high
school. I also plan to go to college at WSU. I am not very sure what
career I want but will be something to do with helping people.
The Products I
Created
Everyone in class
conducted a survey. First, I wrote a few
possible questions. I typed the and had them checked by the teacher, I
fixed my mistakes, pick a color, and had about 60 copies made.
Next I conducted my survey with 2 classes. After I
collected my data, I count all the responses for girls and boys. I
entered these numbers into an Excel spreadsheet. Then I made a
graph for each question. I formatted each graph to be
readable and colorful.
Next, I created a board
game. I planned it out on a scrap piece of paper which I showed my teacher, who helped me find what size of board to use. I made up little things that can happen to an
author. Then I typed them on the computer.

How I Evaluate
My Entire Project
(1) How thorough and complete was my project?
I am very close to being a fourth grade expert on my topic. I
think I stayed too general and didn’t include enough details.
(2) What would I do differently if starting over again?
If I were to start over I would choose a topic that had been
successively done before because then I would know that there would be
enough information.
(3) What major strengths does my project have?
My major strength was my interview. George (my interviewee)
explained thing so I could understand him. Even though I had to
cut out some of the stuff I still had a lot of information to work
with.
(4) What weaknesses or problems does my project have?
My report summary was too general. I could have been more specific. I
also didn’t have the pay that authors receive. That would have helped a
lot.
(5) What did I learn to do better during this project?
I learned how to type faster and use the computer better. I have
to go as fast as all the other fifth graders. My final
draft was much better than my early drafts. I kept improving and
improving, little by little, week by week and now it is as good as all
the fifth grade reports.
(6) In what ways did I enjoy my study and work?
I enjoyed making my game. It took lots of cleverness to make up
all the problems. I nearly ran out of good things to use. It was so fun!!
