Shannon O.

2004

Hi, my name is Shannon. At the time I conducted this project I was nine years old and was in the third grade at Robert Lince Elementary School.

My Family

My family has five people in it including me. My mom, Heidi, records Radio and TV commercials for Memorial Hospital. She is a GREAT mom!!!!! My dad owns a business called Pride Polimers. I have a 5 year old sister, Cailin. I also have a 10 year old brother, Conner, who is also in SOAR.

We have two dogs, a cat, two frogs, two lizards, and lots of fish!

My Hobbies and Interests

As you probably guessed from my research topic, I love to dance.  I go to dance class two days a week where I study ballet, jazz, and hip-hop.  I also take karate class twice a week. I play softball for the Selah Angels. I spend lots of time reading for fun.

My Plans for the Future

In high school I want to get good grades so I can go to college at Washington State University, but I'm not sure what I want to study yet. I might want to become an author, but there are many other things that would be fun also.

The Products I Created

My first product was a blow-up drawing. I started by find a picture of benesh notation of an Arabesque dance move. Mrs. Helms made a transparency of it for me. I put it on the overhead projector and projected a big image on the wall. I taped paper onto the wall and traced the images with a pencil. Finally I colored in the drawing and added labels that I made on the computer.

Dedication
I would like to dedicate my project to my mom and brother, because they helped me and encouraged me.

Why I Chose This Topic

Ever since I was 5, I liked to make-up dances. That is why I decided to take this opportunity to study all about Dance Choreography.
How I Evalutate My Entire Project

(1) How thorough and complete was my project?
I really am a 3rd grade expert on my topic. I believe I completed my project as well as I could.

(2) What would I do differently if starting over again?
If I was to start over again I would choose a topic that someone has done before because then I would know there would be enough information for me to do a report.

(3) What major strengths does my project have?
A major strength my project has is my interview. My interviewee was very descriptive and specific about her experiences. I also think my display is a strength because I was able to get many pictures of me doing different dance steps.

(4) What weaknesses or problems does my project have?
One weakness my project has is it was hard to show how my dance was choreographed because it’s hard to transfer what is written on paper to video.

(5) What did I learn to do better during this project?
I learned how to improve my interview skills and how to take notes.  Another thing I learned to do better was how to use the computer to put together a report. It was pretty fun to learn how to do a crossword puzzle on the computer.

(6) In what ways did I enjoy my study and work?
I had fun doing my blow up drawing and pamphlet. I also had fun learning about dance choreography. It made me realize how hard of a job it is.

Who Helped Me With My Project

I would like to thank the following people:

  • My mom and dad for letting me be in SOAR
  • Mary Jill Rodgers for letting me interview her
  • Mr. Newkirk for working with me on my report, and all the wonderful things he has done
  • Mrs. Helms for making me a transparency for my blow-up drawing.
