Research Summary
Ancient Egypt lasted for over 4000 years. The remains of ancient Egypt
are scattered around the Nile. The Ancient Egyptians were one of the most
advanced people of their time. They believed mostly in their pharaohs
to guide them.
Archeologists
Archeologists study ancient civilizations. An archeologist’s average
salary is $45,000 ? $65,000. They work around ancient sites. To be an archeologist
you need a master’s degree in college and have to learn many foreign languages.
Gods and Goddesses
The Ancient Egyptians are mostly known because of their gods and goddesses.
Ra, god of the kingdom, was the most important god. Ra was eventually
combined with Amon (who was mostly worshiped in Thebes) to create Amon-Re,
god of the heavens and earth. Horus, god of the pharaohs, and son of Osiris,
got revenge when Seth, god of death, killed Osiris because of jealousy.
Architecture
The Ancient Egyptians were one of the best architects of their time.
Without their amazing architecture there would be no pyramids, no tombs,
and no kingdom of Egypt. The Egyptians best creation was the great sphinx,
which is a lion with a human head. The architects used tools made of only
stone and wood.
Agriculture
Farming was usually done for the royal family. The farmers used sickles
made of wood and bull teeth to cut down their crops.
To make their wine they picked grapes and smashed them with their feet.
Beer was one of the main drinks in ancient Egypt. Roots were crushed
and drained.
Fish were a popular food in Ancient Egypt. To catch big game fish the
Egyptians used harpoons. To catch littler fish the use fishing nets or
hooks.
Ancient Egypt was very productive with agriculture for where it was
in the desert. The reason was the Nile River. Every spring the Nile would
flood and leave behind rich soil where they planted their crops. There
were many crops of corn and wheat. There were also gardens of berries.
It was a very relaxing life in Ancient Egypt for those who were rich.
Pharaohs
The ancient Egyptians believed that pharaohs were gods. So, if something
good happened they would all thank their Pharaoh for doing it.
The most well known war pharaoh was Ramees. There was one thing
he lied to the people about. He said that he was the one who won the battle
against the Hittites.
Warfare
The Egyptian’s warfare was amazing. They won almost every battle.
The chariot archers and archers were trained in an archery range.
The Calvary was trained in a war academy. They used swords, spears,
bows and arrows, axes, daggers.
There were many types of axes, swords, and arrowheads. The types of
axes were; Silver shafted axe, battle-axe and the ceremonial axe. The types
of swords were a short sword and a long sword. There were flint and bronze
arrowheads.

Who I Interviewed And What I Learned
I interviewed Montgomery Walker; on January 15, 2004 at 4:00 pm. Monty
is a history and geography professor. I think Monty was a good person to
interview because he was very familiar with Ancient Egypt. He has
been involved with Ancient Egypt for 10-15 years.
He is involved now with Ancient Egypt by teaching classes about it.
Monty also told me he is interested in Ancient Egypt because he enjoys
learning how people lived 4000 years ago. He also told that the good aspects
for studying Ancient Egypt are you get to see things done differently.
He thinks that the artifacts from Ancient Egypt will survive for a century.
He also told me how the Romans decoded hieroglyphics. A worker tripped
over the Rosetta stone. The Rosetta stone had Ancient Egyptian, Greek,
and Roman writing on it. Scholars could already read Ancient Greek and
Roman. They soon figured out that all 3 languages said the same thing,
so they looked at the hieroglyphics and translated them.
Monty enjoys conducting classes as a professor.
I would like to thank him for taking time for my interview.
