Reporters actually go out and do the live shots. They only have about 15 to 60 seconds to memorize their own speech. They have to do research and interview people. They gather and verify facts. They use tape recorders and note books At KNDO all the reporters, anchors and every one else who works with the filming get together and discuss what stories are going to be aired, who’s going to report it, and how long they have to report it. If there is a big story it is regular for you to have over time. They normally work in their office, but when the time comes they go out in the van or Helicopter. They go out to all kinds of places. Sometimes they have to go train at camps, so they can report wars and other dangerous places. Some stories require reporters to work in difficult, dangerous, and upsetting situations. In high school you should study journalism, English, and social studies if you want a career in news reporting. Some other classes might be history, speech, and computer science. In college you might want to take some similar classes as in high school and some classes like writing, sociology, political science, economics, psychology, and business. If you were interested in TV news the best college degree would be a bachelor’s degree in journalism. News reporters do not need a license.
To become a TV news reporter you must have a Bachelor’s Degree, which involves 4 years in college. An internship would be helpful even if it were just getting donuts. Then you have to get the nerve to get an application and fill it out. This job could lead you to move from a tiny town to a Big City, which means a better paying job, but you would not just jump there you would have to work your way up. interesting fact is that some TV news people are in charge of two different
stations. Sometimes the picture of a place was taped 3 years ago. To become
a TV news reporter you don’t have to take TV news as a class.
